Craft in Architecture: Stone Jali/ Lattice Work Saurashtra, Gujarat

Gujarat is a hub of craftspersons who are proficient in masonry and stone carving. Jharukhas or stone brackets, stone screens structures have made Gujarat famous for its sand and stone art. One of the most intricate forms of stone carving is the jaali or the fretwork.  In the jaali technique, the stone or the lattices screen is perforated in ornamental patterns through the use of calligraphy and geometry.
