Jasdan is a major centre for the manufacture of brass-ribbed chests known as pataras or pataris, as well as boxes embellished with metalwork. A patara is traditionally made of teak wood that has been coated in brass and copper. White metal is now being used more often in their production. The box is reinforced with heavy black metal pieces and embellished with small white metal pieces embossed on the wood. The chests are decorated with brass strips. They were traditionally used for storage as well as dowry and trousseau carriers in the past.
Few pataras can be found in the museum collections of Hingolgadh Castle and Gondal Palace. Aside from chests, the artisans of Jasdan and surrounding villages make ornate jewel boxes with brass and other metal decorations.
