New SADLE (Sill and Development Learning Experience) was registered in 1997 with a view to help disabled people.
The project started in 1989 with the opening of a “Sewa Kendra Leprosy Station” with the initiative of an NGO, Nepra e.v. in Dortmund, Germany.
The aim of the project at that time was very simple “heal leprosy beggars”.
However, it became apparent that in spite of leprosy being medically cured they could not lead a normal life and the only choice left was to go back to begging.
It was therefore thought to rehabilitate and integrate the cured back into society through a Rehabilitation Workshop providing training in various handcrafted skills such as; heavy cotton weaving and products, Dhaka printing, batik printing, tailoring and block printing of gift paper warping and carving.
